SuSE 10.0 won't play my music.

I installed amaroK and everytime I go to play a file it says there's and error.

Then it tells me to go configure my sound settings. The startup sounds work, but CD's and MP3's don't.

Please help.

Take a look at this thread.

I doesn't really help that much... I'm still a newbie.

amaroK says "The void-engine cliams it cannot play MP3 files."

You need to install the mp3 codecs so you can play MP3 files.

Read the following article and follow the instructions:

I did that.

For playing MP3 I use the Xine engine. If you don't have that, install from YaST. The package name is amarok-xine.

Once you have installed, go to Amarok -> Configure Amarok -> Engine and select Xine.

I installed it, now it shows it in red text. (In YaST)

Now go to Amarok, when it opens, press the right button of your mouse when it is over the text "Welcome to Amarok", then go to Configure Amarok then select Engine and there select Xine.

If it's installed you must have available Xine. Then click Apply.

Finally play your mp3 files.

It's installed, but it's not showing up.

I got xine to work, but now when I got to play a file, it says it's playing, shows 0:00 then the finishing time in a split second, then stops. Help.

victorh 02-19-2006 10:25 PM

That's strange MezzaMorta. I don't know why you can't play mp3s already.

In case you want to try once more. Why you don't reinstall amarok-xine?. And if it helps xine-lib? I hope that can solve your problem.

I'll try to find other solutions for your problem in case it still refuses to work.

packman?

did you try to use the much better multimedia files from packman.iu-bremen.de? just put it into your installation source and install all relevant mpg-files. should help. otherwise, if it does not work, I cant't help, too.
