Suse 10.0 update kernel to 2.6.20-rc2 for soundcard CMI9761

Hi,

I have just installed Suse 10.0, however I have an ASROCK K7VT6 motherboard, and I can only get 2 channel sound from my CMI9761 sound chip.

I have done a little research and found that the kernel 2.6.20-rc2 supports this chip.

However I have never done a kernel update, so my question is is it possible and how do I do it?

My current kernel info is:

Code:

root@localhost# rpm -qa | grep 'kernel'
kernel-default-nongpl-2.6.13-15.13
kernel-xen-nongpl-2.6.13-15.13
kernel-xen-2.6.13-15.13
kernel-update-tool-0.9-10
kernel-default-2.6.13-15.13
root@localhost#

Any help would be great

Thanks

A kernel upgrade on Suse is simple. The best way to do this is to add ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/opensuse...ry/inst-source (or another mirror) as a YaST installation source and then use YaST to upgrade the kernel packages.
Reboot and you should have no problems, except anything that depends on an exact kernel version: VMware, NVIDIA drivers, Madwifi (maybe)... These would need to be reinstalled.
