SuSE 10.0 Install: Package Kernel Failures
 

I'm trying to take Suse 10.0 for a test drive. Surprisingly, I can't get through the install, even though I've used SuSe a number of times before.

Whenever I attempt to install SuSE 10.0, I get the following errors:

Just for reference:

1. I've verified the MD5SUM of SUSE-10.0-CD-i386-GM-CD1.iso that I downloaded.
2. I've verified the MD5SUM of my CD after burning it.
3. I've performed multiple burns of the CD, and each one fails in the same place.

The worst part of this problem is that its a showstopper for the install process.

Am I missing something?

you used DVD or CD to install?
probably due to file corruption.

i've downloaded and verified the ISO image from a number of the SuSE mirrors, and burned each one to a CD. each CD has the same problem. if there's a problem due to file corruption, it amounts to bad ISO images on the mirrors.

can anyone suggest how to install the files that i can't get off of the CD so that i can have a working system?

thanks for your help. i thought that i had mentioned that i didn't think that the CD burner could be the cause, as the MD5SUM of the ISO created from the burned CD matches the MD5SUM of the ISO image from the mirror, confirming a faithful transcription during the burn. so this narrows the problem down to either a problem with the source ISO or a problem with read failures of the CD drive on the target box.

instead of going around in circles debating the potential source of the problem, can anyone offer some suggestions about how to use an alternate file source (like the mirrors) to selectively install the problem packages, rather than doing a complete internet based install?

maybe the mini disc which is bootable can help?
anyway, the cause might be your hardware problem???
it is headache to troubleshoot if the glitch is hiding somewhere :D

I had similar problem - getting a lot of "Installation of package .... failed" errors (DVD 64 bit eval version of Suse 10, my MD5SUM check was OK as in your case). However, I remembered, that I chose ext3 instead of raiser file system for the / and /var partitions. So, changed them to raiser after starting the install process again, and right now the install process is going smoothly.
The installation has not finished yet but no one error until now after formating the install partitions to raiser. Is raiser what you chose during partitioning?

when i installed, nautilius can't be installed , anyway, i unselected those packages can't be installed.
After successful installation, i use yast to install those packages, ok! Weird!!!
i don't understand why those packages can't be read from the DVD disc during setup? But they are easy to be reinstalled after that.

Curiosity says: Did you try running Memtest86? One bad byte at the end of the ram could really mess things up.
