SuSE 10.0 Crashing When Switching Consoles

I have a laptop (hp ze4521ea) with Ati Radeon IGP 320m graphics chip which crashes when i try to switch from an x server console, to text console then back to X server. If i try to do this, the pc crashes, or sometimes the keyboard doesnt work and i get a blank screen but the mouse pointer still moves.

If I use any Suse version later than 9.2, the computer crashes and the reset button is the only way to reboot the computer. I am currently using version 9.2 which doesn't have the problem.

The only Remedy I can think of is not to switch consoles but it is a feature that i would like to keep using if i upgrade to a new version of suse.

Suse 9.2+ or KDE/Gnome issues?

Are you sure the issues stem directly from the Suse? Or could it be a KDE/Gnome incompatibility past a certain version?
Which are you using know and have you tried other options?
Perhaps if it is say an issue with KDE 3.4, you could downgrade it to 3.2 and still use a higher version of SuSE?

Being a newb myself, I have no idea if this is even possible with your issue and I may be well off base, but I know I had a buddy who used SuSE on his laptop and he mentioned he couldn't upgrade to 9.3 without using a lower version of KDE than came with 9.3 and 10.0.

I use the KDE desktop and im pretty sure that KDE is not the problem. On 9.2 I have upgraded to 3.4 and the switching still works.

Has the X server changed from XFree to X.org between 9.2 and 9.3/10.0? Could this Be The Problem?
