That depends... my guess is the printer won't be too hard.

as root, Start with "lspci". See what is listed for the port. Then check "lsmod" and see if it is loading good drives through the "dmesg", if not an error sometimes shows up mentioning a specific other module to try, in which case you would just "modprobe newmodulename" and then the port should show up. If not, you may have to dig a bit deeper.

Once the port is working, you can work on the printer, one step at a time.(though since old style P Ports are being slowly depreciated in kernel and therefore linux distros, it isn't as easy as it once was. The defaults for many are being turned off, mostly because having every module in the book on slows down the system, and there is no point keeping hardware people rarely use anymore in as it declines even more).
