Support for swedish characters (se_SV.iso88591) in SuSE SLES?

Hi!
How can I set the default language in SuSE SLES distribution?
Only change the /etc/sysconfig/language file and replace encoding with se_SV.iso88591?
I have tried this but when restarting I get "en_US.UTF-8" when checking with "echo $LANG" in a terminal???

How do I set language for all users to swedish characters?
And where?
:-)

Thanks for the help!
Best Regards,
Mikael

I have no problem with swedish characters and UTF8:
Code:
user@linux:~> echo $LANG
en_US.UTF-8
user@linux:~> ÅåÖöÄä
(I wonder if the characters appear on your screen as well, but I can see them. Trust me )

If you want to change the system language (e.g. in YaST or KDE), make sure you have the translations installed.

My system also works correctly with UTF-8. I would however want to disable it everywhere and go back to ISO 8859-1 since some of my application don't support UTF-8, but it seems this isn't possible in SUSE 9.3 just by editing /etc/sysconfig/language.

This would only change the language from en_GB.UTF-8 to sv_SE.UTF-8.
Editing .bashrc actually changes the $LANG variable but doesn't seem to help anything (I think I need the input method to be set to iso8859 or something like that)

I have used this to get my finnish characters working in SUSE:

- open YAST
- Open etc/sysconfig editor
-> search lang
-> Click RC_lang an click GO TO
-> SELECT en_US.ISO-8859-1

-> FINISH and save

REBOOT
