Still got same prob with USB flashdisk on Suse 10

after got bad experience with USB flash disk on suse 9.3 I hope with suse 10 I got fixed problem but hey I still got the Old prob.....
the problem is when I try mount (auto mount) for the second time (after I unplug the USB flashdisk) I always got nothing......
I check with "fdisk -l" I got nothing....usually when my USB flashdisk detected it recognized as sdb1.
but I can solve this problem with restarting my suse...hmmm annoying isn't it?
so does anyone know how to fix this problem?

thanx in advance....

You may find that the device is being given an incremental node at each plugin
eg. sda --> sdb --> sdc ...
These might help:
http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...O.html#hotplug
(in particular "12.4.2. Naming memory sticks")

Simply install and configure udev and hotplug correctly.
Sound better?

Perhaps you could post the output of
Code:
tail -f /var/log/messages
while you plug and unplug the usb disk a couple of times
so that we can see the difference between a working hotplug ...
and a non-working one

OK, a stab in the dark:
try
# uname -r

if you're running anything < 2.6.12 I suggest you upgrade your kernel
AFAIK ehci code has been evolving steadily

Also, you haven't added notes to your /var/log/messages to show
a successful hotplug. Perhaps you could restart your machine (without
the USB disk inserted), and:
Code:
# tail -f /var/log/messages
DO
          type '[ENTER]Inserting dongle[ENTER]'
insert dongle and wait for (say) 10 seconds
          type '[ENTER]Dongle inserted[ENTER]'

          type '[ENTER]Removing dongle[ENTER]'
remove dongle and wait for (say) 10 seconds
          type '[ENTER]Dongle removed[ENTER]'
REPEAT a couple of times
make sense?

Post THAT output! (easier to read)
you might also post the output of
# fdisk -l
(from another console!)
each time you plug it in

this when I after restart my suse :

linux:/home/fireedo # fdisk -l

see there's "sdb1"....

then :

linux:/home/fireedo # uname -r

and this :

then I will unplug it....

I've had a look into the info you've provided so far, and not come up with anything concrete.
I suggest you have a look at the following, though, maybe you can pick up something I didn't:
# hal-device-manager &
# man fstab-sync
http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-l...-May/1952.html
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/0...untpoints.html

If you're still stuck you might search or ask on the linux-usb-users list:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-usb-users&r=1&w=2
