soundcard devoted to ONLY one application

hi,
i ma using Suse9/2 on my laptop.
my poblem is that i can not play more that one sound applications together. for example if realplayer is playing and I open another file using mplayer of kaffeine the second one must wait until realplayer completes its work. it is unusual!
do u have a great idea?

If you ALISA. I disabled it and use the OSS. (Um, on Fedora Core 3, KDE, but I suspect it might be a generic problem.)

You didn't specify the sound system you were using, and (again, I suspect but don't know) that SuSE may support more than one.
