Question Sound on SuSe 10.1 not detected on NX6120 laptop

Greetings all,

The Sound on my HP nx6120 laptop with SuSe 10.1 loaded is not working.

Laptop runs XP with SuSe running on VMware.
Ever since I installed SuSe the sound has not worked.
Windows XP sound is running SoundMAX by Analog Devices and sound plays on XP fine.

I opened 'sound' from within YaST but that did not detect the card.
YaST did a probe on the old sound cards which came up with no result.
I tried running all of Analog Devices' different sound card models by going to YaST > Sound and then adding but they all gave errors when yast tried to configure ".. this can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters"

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --sound
gave no results
alsaconf could not probe sound either.
(above running as root)

I am running kernel: 2.6.16.13-4

Analog Devices website directs me to Alsa-project for sound drivers. This didn't help since the site says: "This is a DoubleClick advertising server." on the main page.
Unfortunately HP's website don't have linux drivers either.

I am hoping someone might be able to assist with this problem?
Also I am fairly new to this so might have missed a trick to get this working...

Thank you for your response. Have a nice day too

Doesn't vmware present generic devices to the VMs? You may need to enable sound in vmware before SuSE can detect a device.

jschiwal: You were certainly correct! I only had to turn on VM's Sound adaptor and voila!
Figured how to get ext USB working in the same process..

Thanks a lot for your quick reply
