Solution: Login XDM Screen instead of KDM

Many of you (like me) had or have the problem that after updating the KDE login manager is gone and an grey boring XDM login manager appears. Most of you think that it's related to the Nvidia driver. It doesn't..

Anyway here is the solution.

1 - Boot your computer
2 - In the xdm login screen, login as root
3 - If KDE appears got to step 6, otherwise follow the leads below
4 - left click on the desktop and select terminal (keep button pressed)
5 - Enter KDE, press enter. KDE will start now under xdm
6 - login
7 - start yast
8 - go to System -> edit /etc/sysconfig-files
9 - do a Search and search for xdm
10 - find DISPLAYMANAGER xdm and open it
11 - change it to kdm
12 - close everything and reboot

The problem should be fixed.

Big thanx to Pete H for this solution.

Oh, before I forget:

The ability to shut down your computer is available and of course 3D games can be played. I have a Geforce 5700 Ultra and 3D is enabled.

Good luck.
