socket: Address family not supported by protocol

when I fire up tcpdump on opensuse 10.3 I get this error. seems like raw socket is not supported. there is no firewall and only eth0 and lo. eth0 gets activated by /etc/init.d/boot.local ("insmod /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.ko") when the systems reboots. Network is working fine. kernel is 2.6.22.5-31-default.

How do I get tcpdump working without recompiling the kernel?

Thanks.

Maybe it's an old driver, and monitoring isn't well supported.
Can't help you more...
