Smart problem adding new channel in Smart-beta

Just installed smart-beta-0.50rc1-6 from Guru and tried adding a new channel of type "rpm metadata" and "yast2 repository" and get the following error "Don't know how to handle <type 'list'> fields", this is before displaying the input screen for the new channel

Options like "red carpet" and "rpm directory" don't give the error

it appears that removing the config file (or some other non-remembered occurance) resolved the problem
