Smart Package Manager problem?

I wonder if you have encountered this problem?
I ran the Smart Package manager and it went and collected various updates etc.
Then when it was "committing transaction"
It flagged up a confilict
It appears that a downloaded file is in conflict with an existing file
I click OK then it just stops with out completing any task
How do I resolve this conflict please
Many thanks in advance

Do you have any particular information on what file was attempting to be updated? I usually like to see what files are going to be updated, so I opt to show details to see what is getting updated. Also, is this on a 10.2 or 10.3 machine? Please ensure that you include this information in the future, as knowing the distribution is helpful many times, as there are differences between them. Thanks.

OK Thanks for the quick response.
To be more specific
SUSE 10.0
The message in the error box

file/usr/lib/libhpip.la from install of hplip-hpijs-2.7.6-1.pm1 conflicts withfile from package hplip-0.9.4-4

file/usr/lib/libhpip.so.0.01 from install ofhplip-hpijs-2.7.6-1 pm.1 conflicts with file from package hplip-0.9.4-4

That was the error message display during the "committing transaction sequence
I was logged in as root
There is clearly a duplication here somewhere and when I tried to search for the files by navigating to the file manually ...I couldnt find it
As a newbie to linux I cant "see" the way to rectify this
Hope this clarifies the prob a little better

I see this problem from time to time when I upgrade from Packman's site. If you really want to install hplip-hpijs-2.7.6-1.pm1 from Packman, then find the package hplip-0.9.4-4 in Smart and mark it for deletion. This should allow the Packman package to install. Hopefully, this doesn't cause even more dependency problems.

If on the other hand you are not trying to solve or fix a problem, you might want to consider just sticking with package hplip-0.9.4-4 and in Smart mark it as locked. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is sometimes a pretty good rule to go by... Hth.

I have the same problem with packages that are duplicates or smart not knowing where the old file is in his database. Usually what I do is, if go to search and type the file that says is conflicting with the installation then enter, that will display the packages with the same name, you will have to mark the old package for uninstalltion or unprotect and uninstall by clicking in the check box until you see the right action for the package hope that helps. Good luck.
