I am using Samsung SyncMaster 793 DF Momitor with SuSe 10.2. The window is shifted to left and size is smaller. I need to shift the window to right and make the size a bit bigger. I tried using Sax2 but have two problems:
1. This monitor is not listed and if I insert Samsung disk I get the error message that disk can not be read.
2. If I select VESA with 1280x1024 resolution 75 HZ and correct the position and size of the window at the time of "test" and save the configuration, no change is saved and the window has the same shortcomings as before!
I am having the same problem, except, the screen is too tall. One suggestion is to change the proportions in the monitor setup. alot of newer monitors don't do that anymore though.
Thanks. However, if I carry out settings in Sax2, It is possible to get the window settings just right but these settings do not take effect. On restart the window is the same.
There are several .conf files in /etc/X11 xorg.conf, xorg.conf.install and xorg.conf.saxsave. My gut feeling says that whatever changes we make in sax2 are saved in the last file. I wonder if we can copy the last file to the first file to get the required changes.
I was still trying to set fix this when i accidenaly selected dual head mode. When i went to the test thing, everythign was the right sizes. For some reason it looks as if when i turned on dual head, it read my monitor dimentions instead of using its own. Hope this helps
Well, you go into the Sax2 monitor configuration. I had to install the correct drivers, and you have to have a videocard that supports multiple outputs, but other than that, you just check the dual head mode in sax2
So nice of you to have taken so keen an interest! Thanks.
It seems that the video card I am using may not have dual head provision. ( I am using GForce 5200 Gigabyte GV-N52128DS) When I go to Sax2, there is mention of activating dual head mode! That's reason I asked how you did it! When I removed the card, the window is perfect but scrolling is terribly slow.
It's interesting to figure out. Thanks.
On reading further on net about Nvidia drivers and Suse, I learned that drivers had to be downloaded, which I did. Now all is fine. I get facility for dual head activation also. Thanks and regards
