SLES 10 Trial

Hello all,

I've recently downloaded, but have yet to install (yes, that recent), SLES 10. I have the activation and all that jazz, but my question is this.

I likely cannot afford to pay the $300+ for the license to download updates. I know it says that there is no difference but you simply can't update and no customer service. Are there any nags? Is it completely impossible to install patches if I do not purchase the license (after the trial period) or are there just some updates that do not work?

How does it work?

Thanks.

your subscription account will simply not work after the period expires. As such if it is not going to happen in the future then you should not use sles in the first place. the fundamental point of a "commercial enterprise subscription" here is that it's not what the system can do technically, it's 1) what support avenues you can call on and 2) who you can blame if it goes wrong. without a subscription, you have neither of these, in fact you have less than nothing, as you no longer have access to updates which would otherwise be freely available on any community supported distribution. so if you like sles and don't want to pay for it, use opensuse, or a community based fork of a genuine enterprise distro, e.g. CentOS.

Thanks... After I posted I pretty much came to the same conclusion. SLES is just out of my budget and therefore not going to work out. I love SUSE tho.
