I want to try out this new SuSE beta. I want to watch the progress as they release new betas.
Question though: If I want to try each released beta, do I have to burn each release seperatly..or is it possible to update from one beta to the next via yast?
When a new beta has been released, check for available patches for the version of opensuse you are running. If there are patches available using YOU, then simply upgrade, if there aren't then it means you have to burn new isos.
You don't want to download the 5 CDs but want to update your Beta1?
* Open YaST -> Change Source of Installation
Add FTP
Server: ftp.opensuse.org (or another mirror)
Directory: pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS-beta2/inst-source/
Move it up to position one and goto 'Install and Remove Software' now. Select 'Package Groups' in the ComboBox. Scroll down and select 'zzz All'. Click on a package on the right side with the right mouse button:
* All in this list -> Update if newer version is availible
This updates all new (blue marked) packages in the list. Click on 'Finish' reboot your System after the installation and start bughunting on Beta2
On a decent broadband connection running System Update takes a good 2 hours or more. I have a cable broadband that is 3Mps , the update is 1.8GB. It took just under 2 hours to download and complete the update.

I'll have to run the updates when I am working nights. That way I won't be annoyed at waiting around for the update to complete.
