Setting up OpenSUSE 11.2 Live CD on a USB Drive
I downloaded the OpenSUSE 11.2 Live KDE Distribution. I want to put it on a USB Flash Drive that is bootable so that I can boot from it when necessary.
What is the best way to do this? I am a newbie to Linux so only know about downloading it and burning a CD. Thank you.

Opensuse 11.2 is very easy to install on an USB stick. Size best is 4GB although can install in smaller usb stick.

1. Donwload a liveCD

2. cd to where the iso file is and then

2.1 find out which is your usb stick. You must be sure otherwise you can wiped out a whole HD!!

First become root
$ su
type your password

## ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/*usb*
you will find at the end the device, for example mine is /dev/sdc

2.1 Write the liveCD.iso to the usb stick

# dd if=liveCDiso of=/dev/XXX bs=4M

I paste MY interaction. I have just made one.

# ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/*usb*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2009-11-14 13:32 /dev/disk/by-id/usb-USB_2.0_USB_Flash_Drive_0ff07bb453d143-0:0 -> ../../sdc

# dd if=openSUSE-11.2-KDE4-LiveCD-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=4M

Go to the openSuSE web site and you will find all the info
