SCIM displays additional system tray icon for root

When running a root terminal, or another program as root, such as YaST2, SUSE 10.2 puts two SCIM applets (the one that shows a picture of a keyboard) in the system tray. I use different keyboards in ordinary user programs, but can't think of any situation in which I need it in root and it just gets confusing having two icons in the system tray at once. How can I make this additional icon stop appearing for the root account?
