Scanner problem

I have a scanner (Canon LiDE 50) and drivers are available from SANE, but it will not activate the driver, can anyone help.
I am using YAST.
It gets to activate driver, then a box comes up cannot activate Genersys.I am running SuSe 10.

run it as root to see if it is a permissions problem...

also check to see if hotplug is enabled and started, one odd thing about my flatbed scanner is sometimes it works without hotplug other times it wont (wierd but true)

Many Canon scanners aren't SANE compliant. Canon makes very little effort to support Linux. My advice to Linux users is to check out the HP PSC series. HP makes sure its printers are supported. My HP PSC 1410 cost less than $80 and with a current version of HPLIP prints, scans and copies. I've heard that EPSON is Linux friendly as well but I have no personal experience with their products.
