Saving and restoring user sessions

I'm running KDE 3.3.2 on SuSE 9.2.

There is an option in KDE-->Control Center-->KDE Components-->Session Manager to have KDE remember your sessions. I have this enabled. Because I have no applications excluded, all programs I had running when I logged out of a previous session should automatically restore on the next session.

This is not the case. I had a problem with this about six months ago. I asked for help, and although I got some help, I decided that I wasn't ready for Linux yet. I left my Linux partition sitting for two or three months; but after installing RH9 and MDK10 over my SuSE partition, I went back to SuSE 9.1. This time, everything worked fine, including the exclude feature (which I used to exclude konsole, thunderbird, firefox, kate, and konqueror). Everything was still fine when I upgraded to 9.2.

But today I rewrote my partition with a fresh install of SuSE 9.2. Strangely enough, thunderbird and firefox no longer load, even if they were running from a previous session. I have no applications in the exceptions list, so they should load. I'd like to know where the "load" data is stored in KDE. One possibility, which I highly doubt is the culprit, is that it still remembers my excluding thunderbird and mozilla from my original installation. But this doesn't explain why konqueror loads. And to my understanding, all data from the previous installation is wiped out.

Any explanations?
