S-Video does not work

I have a S-Video connector on the back of my laptop. I hooked my S-Video up to my tv hoping that it would project the laptop image onto my tv. It didn't. However I am able to hear the audio through my tv speakers. Has anyone had this problem with their laptop? If so, how did you fix the problem.

I was able to view my laptop display on the tv when I had windows XP on my laptopp as the primary os.

My laptop is a Sony PCG-GR250

Thanks,

Hockeyfan

Is the screen resolution and refresh rate the same under Linux as it was when you had it working under Windows? I think TV's can only handle refresh rates up to about 75hz. So maybe try a low resolution and refresh rate and see if that works. I had lots of problems getting my PC to talk to my TV and in the end bought a GrandTec convertor box which does the trick nicely.

I'm not sure what my screen resolution and refresh rate was under windows. I do know that the screen resolution was set at 1024x768 on both windows and linux. The current refresh rate is set at 60 MHtz. I can't remember what it was set at when I was using windows.

I am thinking that the driver for the S-Video was never installed. Is my thinking wrong?

Maybe, what video card is on your laptop? You may have to configure it to allow for svideo out, like for instance, with ATIs it is easiest to download the propietary driver from ATI and use their tvout and dual monitor tools, as they work better(IMO) than the ones that came with SuSE. More configuration options and settings, with easier to use functionality. Perhaps you should try those, as according to Sony you have an ATI Mobility Radeon in there.

PS, I had a buddy in high school who used that name on the web, you aren't from the Denver Area are you?
