Related display problem in SUSE 9.2

Dear all,

I have installed SUSE 9.2 in my desktop but I messed up playing around
and changed on KDE a choice that was forcing KDE to take over graphics with 1024 x 768 after grub was done. So "can not display" naturally pops up.
So what happens now is after GRUB takes over at 720 x 400, KDE is not
able to pick up the control. I was told that this 720 x 400 is the superuser's
default resolution that was set at an early stage of the initial installation.

Is this the way to go? Login as superuser and change root resolution?
Is it easy to do? I will try runlevel 3 and graphics configuration with sax2
if that is not dangerous!!! Any other ideas/hints on how to do this in an easy way?

Also, even before, there was a black screen from the time Grub started
loading the OS, till KDE was taking control some 30-45 seconds later. Any
fixes to that, so there is no black screen?

Thanks in advance,
Georgio

That sounds like the framebuffer device is not working. What grub parameters do you use? 720x400 seems to be a rather unusual resolution.

Dear abisko00,

Thank you for the advice on rl3 as the way to go.
The grub parameter I've played with VGA=0x31a
doesn't seem to help; I've tried 'ask' and 'normal'
and they both fail ('ask' is not even recognised.)
Many other VESA modes will let me go through
the booting process with no problems, but when
KSE is taking over I'm losing my monitor.

I'll try rl3,
Cheers
