Real Player a memory hog?

Hello everybody, I was trying to play some live radio streams through Shoutcast. The default player is Real Player, but after launching it, the system slows down and hardly works. I checked the processes, and I could see that after a few seconds, realplayer.bin was using (?) 280 MB of memory.

Can somebody help me understand what's going on with RP?

I am running SLED 10.

Thanks a lot,

Alex

Real Player for Linux is pretty lightweight. It shouldn't jump to 280 MB. Perhaps a memory leak? Try upgrading Real.

In the meanwhile, you could try using another player, unless the shoutcast stream is a real media file, which seems highly unlikely considering most shoutcast streams are mp3. I'd try vlc.

Thanks xbennyboy, in fact I changed player, however it would be nice to know what's going on with RP. I'll try the update, as you suggest.

Cheers,

Alex
