Question about installing OpenSUSE 10.1 from an ISO file...

Hi!

I am just wondering: Is it possible to install OpenSUSE 10.1 from an ISO file residing on a blank partition on my hard-drive, and if so, how? Any help would be appreciated.

No, you would have to extract it to the HDD first, then you could.

So essentially, I extract the contents of the ISO (with say, Win RAR) onto the HD?

Also, does the partition have to be FAT32, or can it be NTFS?

i feel the best way is to burn the iso images to a cd and install bcoz its cool way to install.

It should install off of the HD just fine, I've done it in the past, but that was way back in the 5.1 days.(!)

What you will need is some sort of bootable media (it used to be floppies) that will boot into the installation program. From there you will want to point the installer to the directory where you stored your files.

As for filesystem types, NTFS may be a problem if the SuSE installation program doesn't grok NTFS.

If you have broadband available, I'd use the FTP install option instead.
