Problems with monitor & unreadably small fonts / xorg.conf with SuSE 9.3 Pro

I installed SuSE 9.3 Pro other day and had no problem with it. Wasn't until I changed my monitor (from an old IBM G50 to a 17" Hyundai Q770) where problems began.

At first the X window (GUI?) would not start. So I edited the xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 and managed to get it going with 'startx' command. However, the fonts are extremely small, making them unreadable (im talking size 1) and the background changed to a red colour with yellow signs with apostraphes (is that how you spell it?) and little detonating bombs!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont want to reinstall this distro from scratch. Many thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

You may want to build a new xorg.conf from scratch. First, from the commandline (hit Ctrl + Alt + Bkspce to restart X), try "xorg -configure" followed by a "startx" . This will try to set up Xorg automagically, but it may not be able to do so. However, if this fails - type "xorgconfig". This manually sets up xorg, but it is easily your best bet short of SuSE's SaX2. Let me know how it goes.

I tried to run xorg -configure, xorgconf followed by startx with no luck. I logged in as root, ran SaX2, bingo worked like a charm! God bless SaX2 gem of a program. Thanks anyway for your help, appreciate it.

Not a problem. I'm glad to see it worked!
