Problem with starting of kde

recently i installed suse 9.1 in my system... i know that its a bit old..

however i have a problem..... after finishing installation my system did not reboot, instead it went to the command line interface and prompted for username and password....

i thought it could be some temporary problem....so i rebooted and i found myself staring at the same prompt!!!

it is not going into the graphical interface and only if i type "startx" can i enter the graphical part....
please help me

there is a file you have to edit. and i dont know which one it is in suse.. but it is really easy,,, but i am posting to tell you that i would leave it that way.. then you start a display manager like kdm or gmd, or xdm, it usually needs root privliges and alsoa must be killed to get out of x, like killed at the prompt. also, if you have graphics problems later, then you will have problems on boot and the screen will flick off and on and off and on and ..... so on.. and can mess up your monitor. i always log in with prompt and startx. you are using less resources and have a more stable system, along with better security. plus, it looks cool!!

The name of the file is /etc/inittab. You need to set it to runlevel 5. You will need to edit it as root and save changes.
