I'm tryig to add the Samsung ML-2010 laser printer to SuSE 10.0. However after installing the Linux Printer Package, the Linux Printer Configuration dialog box asks me to login as administrator. Now, I assume this is the root account so I enter in root (there by default) and the root password but I get an Authentication Failed error message. Does anyone know why?
Also, LinuxPrinting.org may contain a lot of helpful tips. That site has numerous tutorials and guides, and I'd consider it the best resource for addressing printer problems under Linux. Good luck with it
I got some help on another forum and I thought I would post it here in case others come searching for an answer. It is asking for the CUPS admnistrator password. I don't think you have one by default. To set one up log in as root and type:
lppasswd -a root
Then you will be prompted for a password. Enter the new password and then try the Linux Printer Configuration again using the new password you just entered.
