Printing problem; Suse 10.0 -> Win2K

I have a networked HP Laserjet 2100 that is connected to a Win2K work station.

On my Suse 10.0 workstation I setup a printer and connected it to the Win2k machine.

Upon sending a test page, I get non stop blank pages.

I have adjusted the printer settings to the correct printer with the same results.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That sure sounds like a driver problem. Play around with changing the driver, Select another driver for a computer close to the one you have and seee what happens. If this is a new printer, try a driver for a slightly older model.

I would try changing the driver to the closest 2050 2150 or whatever driver.

The printer is listed as compatible in linuxprinting.org

Finally works under selections:
Model: Laserjet 2100M (was not working under 2100 series)
PPD file: Foomatic/ljet4 :-)

Hope useful for others, ciao!

I take you are suggesting to use the 2100M for the straight 2100? Will give other drivers a shot and will post my results.

You might also start lpd service on windows and set
the queue up as an lpd/lpr queue to avoid samba ....

Just tried the various Laserjet 2100 drivers available (Laserjet 2100, Laserjet 2100M, and Laserjet 2100 series) with the same results. I opened a new document type "test" and printed and 3 blank pages came out......

Just installed the LPD service on my Win2k box. Exact same results, 3 blank pages.

Probably you should give up using Win2K as the printer server :-)

Try hooking up the LPT cable directly to the SUSE 10 box first though.

If it is successful then share it using samba :)

If the Laserjet 2100M driver works best, then go ahead and use it. It is just a name. I believe I've always gotten better results using a driver different from the default or recommended one.

First of all, i am a bit newie and sorry for my english.... I also have win2k with and epson C63. This printer is shared. It is installed in my host pc. Then, i have another pc where i have win2k and suse 10. From this win2k i can perfectly print by the printed installed in the host pc. But from linux, i couldn't use it. I mean, i don't know how to do it. I tried installing a LTP, i selcted epson stylus c 63 and all that but it didn't work. I try to print something from linux but nothing happens in the other pc.

Do i need no configure samba ? Because i simply connect to internet by the host ( 192.168.0.1 ) ...but i don't have make the real network...i mean, from one pc i can't access the hdd of the other..

What can i do to be able to print from suse ??

thanks

If it wasn't a notebook I was trying to connect, then I would do what you are suggesting.
