Printing in black with color printer

I'm using suse 9.2 pro with a HP 2550 color printer over a network.

Everything works fine except one thing that is bothering me.

Under W I can print in black only or gray-scale.

I don't see any way to let the printer print only black.

Is there a way to have the choice to print in gray-scale?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Maybe you can try another ppd file with your printer. I recognized that somtimes the manufacturers ppd's do not offer all options. In my case the duplex mode was not available, but when I switched to postscript everything was allright. Have a look at www.linuxprinting.org for more information.

The strange thing is that in Fedora core 4 (which I was installing today) where I have installed the printer the same way, I can print in greyscale.

I didn't however test all programs, so I'll try to use some programs that are common to both distro's and report back.
