Power Managment on Thinkpad

I am working with an IBM Thinkpad 600e and have been having some problems that I have not been able to resolve. Some of you may have seen my posts a week or so ago. I still have not resolved that particular problem being after the LCD goes black with sleep mode it will not resume properly. I need to put it into standby mode by closing the lid or using the Fn-F4 and then the Fn to resume. It will come back properly then. I have seen much correspondence concerning this problem, but no solutions that have worked for me.

I have upgraded the OS from SuSE 9.1 Pro to 9.2 Pro and have had new symptoms. Maybe someone will see these and have an idea.

Specs
IBM 600e 2645-8AU 128 ram 30g HD 256m swapfile. 1g DOS partition with PS2.exe for the hibernation file Latest version(36) of IBM bios SuSE 9.2 Pro

Symptoms
suspend to RAM(suspend) works fine suspend to disk(hibernation) works fine standby(sleep) PC will go into sleep mode(LCD shuts down) but will not resume properly. If manually forced into suspend with Fn-F4 power will return to LCD and PC operates normally.

APMD and ACPID are not installed. Nothing will work if these are installed, even if they are not started during boot.
POWERSAVED is installed. Since upgrade if the daemon is started during boot and I try to suspend the computer suspend will begin, but the LCD will become scrambled as always but the process will hang on something. When this happens a CTL-ALT-DEL will kill whatever is hanging and the suspend will complete. When brought back from suspend it will work fine but compete the CTL-ALT-DEL reboot process. I would like to know what is causing to hang and how to kill whatever it is. If POWERSAVED is installed but not started at boot suspend works fine.

I can live with all of these things except one that I would like to solve.(I would like ideas on any of these problems) That one being when the PC goes into sleep mode the LCD will not turn back on with out forcing into a suspend to ram mode.

I really want to hear from anyone that has gotten power management to work on this computer. Please

David

http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ibm.html - a number of people have it working.

Thank's Xavier. I checked those out but most were with much older distros and kernels. I have been told that appending this line via the boot loader will fix things.

acpi_sleep=s3_bios

I am not using ACPI but it is easy to try. I hope that is a easy answer to the problem. It will make me very happy.
