passwords


I have reformatted and re installed suse 9.3 three times. It never askos me to set up a user name and password during install and set up but then asks me for them to long on. tried every word combo I can think of. What did I miss? Or how do I change them with out loging on? Please I'm a newbe with this please be patiant with my ignorance. I'll need some step by step help.

You must keep skipping that part. Start a console session and log in as root. You can run yast in the console to add a new user. Before you do that, look at the contents of the /home directory. If there is a subdirectory inside it, this is the name of the user, and you can enter the command:
passwd <username>
And then enter a new password.

In the lower right part of the log in screen, you can select a console session.

You can also start a console session in one of the virtual terminals. To use VT/2 for example, enter
[CTRL][ALT][F2]. Press all of the keys at the same time. The SuSE gdm login screen is on VT/7 - [ALT]-[F7]. This will return you to where you were when you started.
