Partition Juggling
 

In an effort to free up some space on my root partition I've come up with a conundrum.

I created a fresh new partition for /home and then copied the contents to the new partition.
Having used root to do the copying, I changed the permissions for each home directory back to what they should be. Fine so far.

I used YaST to change the partition table so that the new partition mounted at /home.
Rebooted, logged in as a user. Still fine, everything works great, partitions where expected.

Now the problem - the root partition is just as full, so I am assuming that because I didn't delete the old /home contents that it's still there but not showing because the new partition is mounted in it's place.

And the question - how do I go about safely deleting the contents of the old /home directory?

Can I just go into the "rescue system" from booting up, mount the root partition (hda5 in my case), and delete the old /home contents before rebooting into the full system?

Advice much appreciated.

Sorted - sorry couldn't wait I'm afraid.

Booted up from 9.2 CD, then into Rescue System.
Checked mounts and seeing no disk partitions, I mounted hda5.
CDed into /home and deleted the contents.

Rebooted back into main system - all fine and I've got my disk space back.

Question - Is there a way to find "lost" files without going into the barebones Rescue System?
