pam_ldap - I'm not even using it but keeps looking for it

I was going through YaST taking a look at the options. Was thinking of trying to integrate my OpenSuSe 10.3 with a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. YaST installs the krb5 and LDAP packages.

After installation I disable LDAP and forget about it. Now I am unable to log in with any users except root. I get this error in my /var/log/messages

pam_ldap: ldap_search_s Operations error

Very cryptic. Anyone have any ideas? My /etc/nsswitch.conf does not mention any LDAP, only NIS and files. I know my NIS is working fine because my other Linux machines using Ubuntu work fine with NIS. If I create a local account, then it works fine, but I want to use NIS, yet my logs tell me I'm using LDAP.

I found out that somehow YaST changed my PAM files since I found multiple LDAP entries. Since I am not familiar with PAM, I ended up wiping out my OpenSuSE 10.3 and installing the new CentOS 5.1. I can't believe YaST would mess up my PAM. Oh well, it's been fun, OpenSuSE!
