Where is a list of repositories for YAST on OPenSUSE 10.0 Beta1?

Maybe I am doing something wrong but none of the ones listed on the documentation page seem to work I get a weird error when I try to enter any of them.


This is my first time using SUSE and so far it is very nice. If I can get this repository thing worked out I will be good to go. It installed without any problems on my Dell Latitude C600 .

Yippie. Also found out how to look through the package instead of just searching. SUSE is cool. The only thing I can't find is Rox-filer.

But hey I did find Wesnoth and Fillet two of the coolest games.

I like SuSE a lot generally. I will admit that there are things that they would work on though. Just bear in mind that you're dealing with a beta version, not really a release. You will find things there that will be ironed out before the final version. Don't judge SuSE too harshly for the things you find (unless you can also find them in the release version.)

So far I am impressed. The only thing that was a little bit of a pain was browser plugins. In Debian just apt-get install flash also installed the browser plugin. Not that it was really that big a deal, manually copying or symlinking only took me 5 minutes to get Java, Flash, RealPlayer and Adobe all working.

The System Update is cool, it took two hours to completely update to Beta2. For my first trip into the land of SUSE I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is.

The way YAST installs rpms is kinda cool also. The only thing I haven't taken the time to install is Mplayer with the Mozilla plugin, mplayer-plugin. Once I do that I will be good to go. Ooops and the ATI video driver, although everything works without it so I may not bother.

Even managed to get Superkaramba from Kde-look.org
SUSE is definitely a distro I would recommend, even a completely newbie could install it and get it working.

I found the easiest way to add a new source rather than doing it in YAST wsa to use a terminal.
Open a terminal as root then type: installations_sources -a your source then hit enter
Much easier and faster.


Checked out apt4rpm and so far the sources only go up to 9.3 hopefully someone will list some for OpenSUSE soon as apt4rpm is included with Beta2.

If anyone knows of any other working sources for either YOU or apt4rpm please post them in this thread. Thanks.

Also one quick question. Will an rpm for 9.3 work for 10.0beta?

Ok anyone know the right/correct way to use apt4rpm?

I found the list above on the apt4rpm for SuSE site and when I run apt-get update all I get are errors.

Could you also add a link to the YOU servers for 9.3 as well

- A new 9.3(PRO) Install doesn't seem to have any links anymore -- previous SUSE installs as far back as version 7 always worked -- I used to do an automatic YOU after the intial system install. Now this doesn't work anymore.

Question - can I directly update from 9.3 to 10.0 using APT (preferable) or YAST? If I simply add the 10.0 repositories to my list, what will happen?

It probably wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe once 10.0 becomes stable.

And they still do. These are actually loaded somehow from SuSE's website. Some people have trouble with this sometimes for some reason. I have noticed YOU servers appear and disappear at random intervals.

Don't fear, the YOU packages are on the same servers as the other packages. You can get a list of servers from http://www.novell.com/products/linux...t_mirrors.html

If the YaST package url is:
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/suse/i386/9.3/

Then the YOU url is:
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/suse/
