Opensuse update manager does not update

Hello!

I am experiencing a quite strange bug with the opensuse updater.... right after bootup, it shows up in the clock area and says there is new updates for my system.... if i click the icon and select install updates, it then show a progress bar and completes the installs, but it comes back immediately with THE same updates...! I can install them forever, they will never get installed. Also, if I go in Yast2 to the online update applet, and I select all patches (including all necessary/unnecessary), it shows a list of about 120 updates, I can select all the updates, install them, but after the process is complete, if I go back in the applet, the list is still full, exactly like if I didnt installed the patches.... any clues????

I have seen this problem once, i added a repository (i think it was packman) then the applet showed about 30 updates, i pressed the update icon and nothing happened. Then again it again showed the same updates.
I opened the terminal and tryed to update with zypper (sudo zypper update) then i found the problem, it said "the following package(s) is going to change vendor : ..."
I accepted and waited for the update process to complete and the problem went away, and now i can perform updates with the applet again.
I think you have the same problem (vendor change), try to update from terminal.

Hope that helps.

mmm ok!?

r1d3r, I tried what you recommended me and here's what happened:

I typed sudo zypper update and then I've been asked for the root's psw.... once i typed the psw, here's what I got:

Downloading repository 'Packman Repository' metadata [done]
Building repository 'Packman Repository' cache [done]
Reading installed packages...

The following NEW patches are going to be installed:
fileshareset kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger

No additional space will be used or freed after the operation.
Continue? [YES/no]: yes

and then i got back to the konsole (lpallard@localhost:~>)

i can re-run the zypper update and I get the same stuff.... looks it doesnt rreally update... any more clues?????

Well thats strange!

Go to "Configure Applet" from the updaters context menu and change the backend, maybe that solves it.

Strange I have this exact same problem with the same files showing as updates. I went into yast a manually updated the packages but still they show up. I still get other updates and they install and work fine but those 2 never go away.

You said 120 updates? I think you are using the old version of openSUSE.
Ok, this is the last thing that comes to my mind:

open the updater applet and open the updates list.
There you should find an update for the updater itself.
Uncheck all the updates except for the updaters and update it.
Then see if you can uodate other programs.

I think this should work, because Mandriva does the same thing: first the update manager and then the others.

Hope this helps.

That does not help in my case. I only have the 2 updates when others show up it installs them fine and they go away, the 2 stay :(
I tried updating the updater manually and it does not solve the problem either. However unless I'm mistaken this all started with an update to the updater, till then things were fine. By the way I am on ver 11.0
