openSuse Leap installer gets stuck or doesn't load
I have been preparing to perform a major upgrade and HDD replacement at the same time. While waiting for the hardware to arrive, I have been downloading and burning all the iso's that I expect to need.
I have downloaded the openSuse Leap X86-64 iso twice and the boot from dvd fails at the same place each time.
-checksums ok,
-media boots and verify media ok when done in a different machine
-openSuse 13.2 i586 DVD gets to the partitioning part of the install at which point I bail out.
When booting from the Leap x64 DVD there is a green progress bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. It gets stuck when that reaches 100%. I left it for 20 minutes last night just in case it was a bit slow.
Does any one know which point in the start up this or is there any way to get some verbose messages up on the screen so that I can see what is happening?
At this point I am suspecting that something in my machine does not like 64 bit even though the CPU (Pentium D 820) and chipset (intel 945G) should be ok.
The download was done using Kget, two times and each time the checksum was ok. Just for reassurance, I booted both of them in a Compaq DC7800 at work that only has 1GB ram and that went as far as I dare let it. I even went to the trouble to rsync the iso file against a local mirror service. The second disk was burned on a machine at work to rule out my own burner.
The computer that I am trying to install onto has 2Gb Ram and is currently running kde desktop openSuse-11.0 The machine is mainly used as a PVR that has satellite and terrestrial DVB cards installed.
The chipset is intel 945GZ, the only doubt remains is over the MSI bios which dates from about 2007
The 32 bit version of OpenSuse-13.2 installed perfectly. The 64 bit installer for leap just would not coperate. Given more time, I should have looked into bios update on the target m/c but was under pressure to have the system up and running by last night.
I find it a great shame that Suse has dropped the 32 bit version of this popular OS. There are still many capable machines around that perform a useful function even though they may be getting on a bit.
Even with everything up and running we are only using about 80mB of the swap file, and with streaming media using rygel, recording TV from a satellite card and a DVB-T card the processor is not breaking out into a sweat. Even with all of that going on, the kde desktop and even web browsing is still responsive.
Hello I`m having the same issues exvalvesetdabbler has.
When booting from the 42.2 Leap x64 DVD there is a green progress bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. It gets stuck when that reaches 100%. I`ve also waited about 1 hour but it just won`t load. By pressing on the arrow buttons, when the green progress bar show`s up I can see the progress in a script where it recognises my hardware and driver, but it gets always stuck on iwlwifi.
I have a Medion Erazer laptop ACPIx64-bit based with:
Intel core i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M
16 GB of RAM
Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265#2
