openSUSE - a software developer's choice?

I simply can't name any source but I have heard several times that openSUSE (or SuSE) is an excellent choice for a C/C++ software development workstation. Is there any truth behind this?

The packages you will use will be available with other distros. Unless you will be working with .net I don't think that your distro choice will make much difference.
