OpenSUSE 12.1caught in installation loop; goal is multi-boot Win7, openSUSE & Ubuntu.
 

1) Would like to do a triple boot of Win7, openSUSE and Ubuntu. Computer is HP Pavilion AMD Phenom X6 and came loaded with Win7; already has three primary partitions: "System", Win7 and HP Recovery partitions. Intending to use instructions and diagrams from internet using Win7 as bootloader with modifications for the Linux distros using EasyBCD. Dvd of openSUSE was obtained from the openSUSE booth at the recent Linux Expo in Los Angeles.

2)When system is started, the green openSUSE "Welcome" screen appears, followed by the openSUSE Installation choices menu screen. When the “Install” option is chosen, system displays a window showing “Loading Linux Kernel” (with an increasing % progress line).

3)Instead of the expected License Agreement and Language screen, the system displays AMIBIOS information including hardware test details, RAID details, "ISOLINUX 4.04 ...", then goes back to the openSUSE “Welcome” screen. System repeats this tight loop until I choose “Install from hard disk” option from the openSUSE installation choices menu screen. System then loads Win7. Please help.

This sounds lika a faulty disc.
Or maybe you've got some very special hardware that doesn't work in Linux, causing installation program to reboot.

Thank you for your helpful suggestion. The installation disk works in an older AMD Athlon 64 - 3200+ laptop computer. It proceeds through the graphical screens interactively, as expected. Are you willing to look at the hardware list of my current system and discuss it with me?

chip5, first of all excuse me for delay but I have been very occupied last weeks.
And thanks for your email, but it's always best to keep the discussions on the forum.

1) Your problem: There are a few things to try first.
* Test the DVD, can be done from installation screen.
* Also do the Firmware & Memory tests.
* When you mark "Installation" you can add Boot Options. I don't remember exactly what to add, you'll have to search for this.

Give as much info as possible about your hardware, hopefully someone has experience from same kind.
Otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to search yourself. There are lots of "Linux Compatibility Lists" like www.linux-drivers.org, linuxhcl.com
Discuss we can always do when you've found something!

2) As for your emailed question about my signature:

Now it might still not be quite clear, but let me add that "Pingvin" is the Swedish word for "Penguin"
