I thought this was odd, it shuts down the driver and restarts it??

If you wish to use KDE in openSUSE, I would just recommend using openSUSE 10.3. It may be almost out of support, but it will only be unsupported for 1 month before openSUSE 11.2. Anyways, KDE3 in openSUSE 11.1 has lots of bugs, and it's disturbing with how many KDE4 bugs in openSUSE 11.1 there are. If you still insist on openSUSE 11.1, you can switch to GNOME. That's what I wound up doing for all of the KDE bugs. Though beware, my sound card wasn't detected properly some SUSE installations.

I liked 10.3 but I was hoping going that far back wasn't an answer. Until I get an answer I'll just run "rcalsasound restart" after boot. Not that a big of hassle as reinstalling everything. Thanks for the reply.
