openSUSE 10.3 Installation Problem

I am trying to install openSUSE 10.3 and it always hangs whenever any script calls "sync".

I have tried with Safe settings, noapic, noacpi and without libata with no success. I didn't have any problems with other distributions.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

I believe I read a thread the other day where they were trying to do a complete install and what they ended up doing was installing 10.2 and then doing an upgrade to 10.3, not a replacement.

The problem is caused by grup package - the installation script runs sync after installing grub. However, even if I remove grub, the post-install scripts still try to invoke sync at the bootloader configuration step.
