OpenSuSE 10.3 failing to install GRUB w/nvRAID

I've tried installing OpenSuSE 10.3 x86_64 on an nForce 4 based mobo in a LVM configuration on two non fake RAID hard drives, with Windows on two drives that ARE fake RAID. When it goes to install GRUB it throws up an error like "number not found" on why it can't install GRUB. LILO is also a no-go. But if I disconnect the RAID drives in BIOS everything works fine, it's just I'd rather not do that.

Does anyone have an idea on any kind of settings change, besides the BIOS which is a pain since the drives re-enumerate and screw everything up on boot, to make this work?

What type of a raid array is it. I think you can boot up if you are using raid1 if you use grub but other types of raid may cause a problem.

When booting, can grub detect the partition at all? Is the /boot partition on the lvm partition? I don't think grub supports LVM.

If this isn't a server, I would recommend if possible using a normal partition for boot. If you have other disks making up an array, you could make a copy of the /boot partition on the other drive which would allow you to boot up from the quick boot menu by selecting the other drive. But if you can get grub to boot with /boot on a raid partition that is fine. However, you don't want it on an LVM volume.
