OpenSuse 10.3 - Don't want X at boot

After a clean installation of OpenSuse 10.3 as is well. Except that I would rather not have X Windows startup at boot-up.

Is this disabled in YAST under >System>System Services (Run Level)> and disabling XDM? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

What I hope to achieve is to have the machine boot to Level 3.

Thanks in advance!

Go into Yast and change your start up setting to init3

If this is a clean install and you don't mind reinstalling there is an advanced option somewhere in the installer that allows you to choose a default init 3 startup (I think it is a drop down menu that has little explanations of what each level does).

The other option which I have not actually tried but would make sense based on the files comments would be to edit /etc/inittab and change
Code:
# The default runlevel is defined here
id:5:initdefault:
to

Code:
# The default runlevel is defined here
id:3:initdefault:
by opening Gecko>Applications>System>File Manager>'File Manager - Super User Mode' and navigating to /etc/ and editing the file 'inittab' or by running 'sudo gedit /etc/inittab' in a command line.

Again I haven't tried this and wouldn't suggest it if you hadn't explicitly mentioned that this was a fresh install (and thus with no data that could be lost).

Someone else with more experience care to speak up? I'd be interested to know if the above is an acceptable way to accomplish the goal stated.

Yast -> System -> System Services (runlevel). Check "Expert Mode" at the top.
