OpenOffice - selecting text

Using OpenSuse 10.2, when I select text (with mouse or keyboard) in OpenOffice, the selected text appears, not (as usual) inside a single colour, but containing a lot of little dots - which makes very difficult to read it.
I' ve used OpenOffice in many Linux distributions and never saw something like that.
What's wrong ?

Is this only in Open Office, does your text editor and the desktop fonts look ok? Did you have the problem from the install?
