Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200 and Sax2 have big problems.

I have an NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200 on Suse 9.2 and whenever I try and run Sax2 it frezzes my screen with some text headed X Window System, with an error "FBDEV(0): FBIOPAN_DISPLAY: Invalid argument" and a bit further down, finishes on "SetMouseSettings: Succeeded". When I run "Sax2 -p" I get 0 as an onboard intel using i810 (which should not be my main card if it is) and 1 as Nvidia Card using nv when it should be nvidia as I hve edited every file in etc/X11 to say nvidia instead of nv. When I use Yast to configure my Graphics card and monitor I get the same blank screen. I have tried running Sax2 at lowres but this doesnt help. Someone please help with this! (P.S. Sorry for the long post)

You could try to disable the onboard card in the BIOS if you are not going to use it.

Sorry, but I don't know your BIOS

(Re-)start you computer and on the initial screen, press Del or F2 or whatever brings you into the BIOS and search for an option to deactivate the onboard graphics adapter. I really can't help you any further.

do u no how to change sax2 -p from displaying nv to saying nvidia?

According to 'man sax2', sax2 -p lists available PCI/AGP information of detected cards.

Try to use 'sax2 -m 1=nvidia' to configure your card with the nvidia driver.

Have a look at 'man sax2' for more options.

when i try that, my screen just goes completely black. I f you can help me with this, please do because I have googled this problem till my eyes went blurry.

First, nvnews.net is a great place for information on nvidia cards.

Second, the newest driver from nvidia.com (7 thousand something) is great and what I use. There were lots of issues that it fixed. Installing it is difficult though. Follow the directions for updated kernel if you have run YOU and gotten a new kernel.

Third, build from the inside out. Never go to the next step unless you have everything right in the step before.

hardware>bios>gruborlilo>kernel>yast>kde.

Did you manage to switch-off onboard graphics meanwhile? This should be #1 on your ToDo list.

my bios wont let me. at the side it says "press disable onboard video to disable onboard video" but all I can choose from are 512kb or 1mb
