It's been awhile since I've used my SuSE 10.2 computer, but I remember that I was able to install the driver from the NVIDIA website without any problems. I don't recall the exact details offhand (as I'm at work w/o my installation notes), but you will need to install this in runlevel 3 as the root user. From there, it is just a matter of executing the .run file once you have downloaded it from the NVIDIA website. The disadvantage of this, however, is if you ever update or upgrade to a newer kernel version, you will have to recompile the NVIDIA driver as well. Not a tremendous problem, but then I use Slackware normally and am used to this sort of rigor.

It is much easier to use YAST to install the nvidia drivers rather than doing it manually. This page should help http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60/
You need to install the nvidia drivers themselves and the right kernel for your system. |
Installed OpenSuse 1 Week ago
I decided to try opensuse a week ago and just downloaded the driver from nvidia and #sh NVIDIA*#, installer installed driver and works great. I did it that way because suse had trouble detecting my LCD monitor settings but the nvidia drivers had no problem with setting it up correctly.

I was unable to get the nvidia drivers working when installing from yast, so I downloaded the shar file from the nvidia website and executed it as root. I think it's the safest solution with the exception of kernel upgrades.
