Nvidia driver isn't working in Suse 10

I'm new to suse, use to use slackware, so right now I'm trying to get the nvidia driver to work so that I can use open gl with maya

I'm lost and have no idea what to do, Can someone help me please?

P.S. I got the driver to work under slackware with no problems, and I'm using a TNT2 (kind of old)

You can find the nvidia drivers and install instructions here:-

http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

I think that your card is so old - the most recent drivers will not work. Would suggest that you try the oldest.

Installing on suse is quite straightforward:-

go to init 3

cd to the location of the driver file

then type sh/NVIDIA...{file name}

when the program has run type

sax2 -m 0=nvidia (O is zero not the letter)

this will open sax which is the suse graphic config screen

I already had a old driver, I just didn't know how to enable it

nm this isn't working. it stoped after I restarted, could you just tell me how to use mesa in suse, I'm using maya so it should be ok thanks

I just press one of the function keys, F1 - F2 or F3 while holding down the control key on my keyboard. That will drop you to a black screen. Log in as root using your root password. Then, type "init 3" without the " " and it will get you where you want to be. Alternatively, I would suggest trying reinstalling the nVidia driver through YAST update. I installed various versions of SUSE on a friends computer that had the TNT2 card and never had any problems installing or enabling these drivers. Good luck and Happy New Year!

I remember, it stoped working after I upgraded my kernel. Should I reinstall it and
not upgrade my kernel or is there a way to fix it, because I have re installed the
driver several times.
