I have Suse 10.1 up and running for the most part. I am however having a few issues and Im not sure whats going on. I downloaded the latest driver for my NVidia card from there site and printed the How to, problem is that I keep getting this error.
gcc-version-check failed
./usr/src/nv/conftest.sh:line19 cc:command not found
I checked to see if GCC, libc, and Kernel-source were installed and as far as I can tell they are are all installed.
thats problem 1
Problem 2
For some reason, neither of my cd drives will show in the installation resources section. When I try to add them it says it cant. However, the drives are reading the cd's since if I leave it in at boot, it asks whether I want to boot from the cd.
I have yet to figure out how to access the cd drives.
Last time I used Suse was with ver 10 and this is a fresh clean install of 10.1 I am not very good with Linux and am trying to learn how it all works so any help would be greatly appreciated.
There is a problem adding sources in Suse 10.1. The best thing to do is install a package called rpm-python from your discs and then install the smart packages from Guru's site. After that run the smart GUI and it will be preconfigured with some sources. You can than add your own optical discs as sources and do other package management stuff.
Thats what I get when using the command you gave me. As for the rest of your advice, I am going to work on that now. I am finding Mplayer to be a rather large pain in the a$$ as well. Any suggestions on what to use for my main media player? I watch alot of things in avi, divx, xvid, wmv, and normal dvd.
I think I have found the problem, I just dont know how to fix it. Several times now I have tryed to compile different programs and I am getting similar errors. Here is what the last one gave me
no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
When I tryed to install my nvidia driver I got an error along the same line. Any ideas?
You don't have the full gcc installed. I would suggest you setup the smart package manager as I mentioned above and then use it to install gcc and gcc-c++.
I think I will do just that. I went there and there a ton of files related to smart, Im not sure exactly what all I need from there. Ill take another look though
I think i have more issues at hand lol. I got the smart packages like you said, but I cant seem to access my dvd to get the rpm-python. I cant even add the cd/dvd drives to the installation sources. I know they are supposed to be listed there but they just arent. And when I try to add them I get a message stating that I cant add them. I am gonna try looking for rpm-python on the net for now but that is only a bypass of the problem with my drives. Anyone know what I can do to get the drive issue fixed?

You can get the rpm-python package from a Suse mirror. Like I said above, the problem with setting up repositories is a known bug. Getting smart like I mentioned above is a workaround for your problem.
Well, iv had enough of this, I searched all over the damn place for that rpm-python and everywhere I went it told me to check on the dvd, well, if I could even access my dvd that would be fine. But I cant even do something as simple as acessing my cd or dvd drives. I dont think this is worth the hassel. I appreciate your help in trying to resolve this issue but its pissed me off now and if I am having this much trouble with suck a simple task I can only imagine what hell it will be to do anything productive.
