I just installed openSuSE 10.3 CR1 and MPlayer-1.0rc1try3-1.pm.3.i586 but there is a lot of noise when playing video files. Here is the output from running mplayer from the console:

This happens to me too. I just installed openSUSE 10.3 RC1 a few days ago, added the packman repository, installed MPlayer. The sound is not good (that's an understandment).
By default it uses the mp3lib audio codec for MP3. And indeed the sound is very disturbed. Selecting another codec, such as mp3acm, does not have that problem.
Looking on the web it shows that this may be an old problem as can be seen in an Ubuntu forum from 2006, thread is titled: "Mplayer (and mencoder) 1.0 RC1 packaged for edgy".
The strange thing is that this now shows up on openSUSE 10.3. I don't have a openSUSE 10.2 handy right now, but maybe I should revive my previous root filesystem, and try to update MPlayer on that. Notice that packman has the same version MPlayer for 10.2 too.
