No Sounf after online Update in SLED 10.0

Hi
I'm quite new in Linux and was trying to get my computer up to speed to start digging into SUSE. I did an online update using the software updater in GNOME and I believe it downloaded some ALSA upgrades that screwp up my soundcard confi. I have no more sound even if the card is corrcetly detected in YaST (AC'97 Sound controler)

I have searching in several forums but even if I found similar threads for my issue, the solutions posted have not worked so far. Can somebody give me some guidelines?

A few points:

lsmod shows
...
snd_pcm_oss 42752 0
snd_mixer_oss 16256 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_seq 46960 0
snd_seq_device 7948 1 snd_seq
snd_intel8x0 30108 0
snd_ac97_codec 82848 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_ac97_bus 2176 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_pcm 79880 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 20868 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 50692 8 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer

I tried to used alsaconf. It aparently worked fine until the end (It tells me that evrything is ok and to have fun :-) but after trying alsamixer I got the following message:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

I tried to remove the card snd-intelrd (I use modprobe -r in all snd modules), restart and use the quick automatic setup in YaST but I got thi message:
" The kernel module snd-intel8x0 could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters"

Any idea will be hihgly apreciated
Thanks

grpatrick

If a software upgrade caused the problem, downgrade the alsa packages again. It's not a hardware issue if the sound card worked before the software upgrade.
