No Sound Whatsoever On Linux 10.0

HEY GUYZ,

AFTER GETTING FED UP OF TRYING TO GET SLACKWARE TO WORK, I HAVE INSTALLED SUSE LINUX 10.0

I GOT EVERYTHING TO WORK FINE, BUT I GET NO SOUND AT ALL. IT DOES RECOGNIZE MY SOUND CARD THOUGH. I HAVE A SOUND BLASTER AWE 64 SOUND CARD. IT RECOGNIZES IT. WHEN I GO THROUGH YAST AND CONFIGURE THE SOUND, IT ITS ALL GOOD. BUT WEN I GO THROUGH, JUST REGULAR CONTROL CENTER, IT IS TELLING ME THAT IT CANT WORK, OR SOMETHING. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO. O YE, AND EVEN THOUGH MY SOUND DOEZNT WORK, IF I TRY TO PLAY MY MP3Z ON ARMOAK, IT JUST GOES REALLY FAST, AND SAYS ITS DONE PLAYING.

PEACE

usually, I wouldn't answer someone that writes in capitals and that only has 4 posts and a status of newbie, and I don't encourage that. The only reason you got an answer is because of the post of 200 000 users encouraging the be active and answering and fixing problems.

What computer specs do you have? Do you use a laptop? What model is it? What model is your sound card? What does /sbin/lspci report? what does /sbin/lsmod report? does alsamixer work? does cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp work?

More details, the better. Don't use caps again.

thank you.

got sound to work but still now working fully

sorry about the all caps

i am a newbie, but i am very interested in linux.

i got the sound to work, it seems that i plugged in the speakers in the wrong port. but now there still remain 2 problems. first of all, when i try to play a cd, using the kde cd software, it plays, but no sound comes up. what should i do about that. and second of all, if i try to play an mp3, then it plays realllly fast in amorak, then says that the playlist has finished. why is that???

>.<

Make sure that in alsamixer (or kmix), the CD volume is high enough to hear. On my computer, the CD sound naturally comes out mild, and not very loud... You may need to rip the CD for convenience... Or crank it up.

I have a similar problem in XMMS, the reason was because the crossfade plugin would throtle the arts output badly. Disabling the crossfade plugin and reenabling the artsplugin did it.

Disable any plugin that you enabled that may have cause the problem, or revert to defaults...
